New NGO ‘Brazil Baby Affair’ founded to help victims of illegal adoptions from Brazil who were denied their human right to identity
Press release
Zurich, 19 September 2014 – In the 1980s, findings from an international criminal investigation into illegal Intercountry Adoptions from Brazil uncovered that many Brazilian babies during the 1970s and 1980s were taken illegally to several European countries and the USA. These babies are now adults and many of them are in search of their original families.
Having been deprived of the human right to identity, founder and managing director of the NGO Brazil Baby Affair Patrick Noordoven has personally experienced the consequences of this violation:
“Through the NGO, I will continue researching and start informing the world about the Brazil Baby Affair,” said Brazil Baby Affair founder Patrick Noordoven in his presentation at the Hague Talks on 19 September 2014 at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the Netherlands. This round of Hague Talks marks the 25th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. “Consequently, I am putting into use all the efforts I made in the ongoing search for my identity. Ultimately, I am putting my family tracing experience into practice to help others as a constructive way to move forward.”
###
Brazil Baby Affair’s Mission:
The Mission of the NGO is specifically to provide assistance in family tracing requests from all victims of all human rights violations committed through illegal Intercountry Adoption practices in Brazil up until 1999.
The NGO Brazil Baby Affair addresses all Brazilians worldwide, as well as their original families, who are deprived of their human right to identity mainly through the systematic practice of false registration of births.
By publicizing this issue through the existence of this NGO, we might reach other victims, their original families and the general public, all of which can help in uncovering information about the original identity of the illegallly adopted Brazilians. Further awareness of the Brazil Baby Affair is much needed in order to increase understanding among the general public and will hopefully lead to the establishment of more substantial support for the victims.
About Brazil Baby Affair:
Brazil Baby Affair is a Non-Governmental Organization and Non-Profit Organization founded in 2014. The head office of the organization is registered in Zurich, Switzerland. The NGO works with a team of dedicated experts and has partnerships in several countries around the world.
